How To Start Your Skincare Regimen: Best Skin Care Products 2018
HSA: What should one remember when starting a skincare regime for the first time?
Padilla: Know your skin type and use products that are specifically made for it. Buy the best product you can within your budget. Do research before buying anything. And most importantly, be consistent with your routine if you want to see results.
HSA: What are your skincare routine steps?
Padilla: I’m a huge advocate of the Korean 10-step skincare routine because it has transformed my skin. I use a water-based cleanse in the morning. The Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser is my favourite because it is gentle on my dry skin.
At night I do a double cleanse. I start with an oil-based cleanser like Banilla Co. Clean It Zero, then do a second wash with my water-based cleanser.
After drying my face, I put The Ordinary Glycolic Acid Toning Solution on a cotton pad and wipe it all over my face and neck.
When it comes to serums The Ordinary’s Buffet is a daily staple. I will also switch between or layer on The Ordinary’s Niacinamide and Squalene, Estée Lauder’s Idealist and Cosrx Advance Snail Cream Power Essence.
My favourite moisturisers are DewyTree Snail Cream and Dr. Jart Ceramidin Creme.
When my skin is feeling extra dry and tight I’ll add a few drops of Drunk Elephant Marula oil to seal everything in. A few times a week I will use facial masks such as Drunk Elephant Sukari Babyfacial and DewyTree or Dr. Jart sheet masks. I’ve also been loving Clinique’s All About Eyes.
HSA: What are your top recommendations for best skin care products 2018?
Padilla: I would recommend Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser, Simple Micellar Cleansing Wipes, the Face Shop Rice Cleansing Bright oil cleanser, Drunk Elephant Sukari Babyfacial, DewyTree Snail Cream, Dr. Jart Rubber Mask, Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Bum Bum Cream, Too Cool For School Pumpkin Sleeping Mask, The Ordinary Glycolic Acid Toning Solution, and Kiko Smart Hydra Shot Stick.
How You Can Tame Your Frizzy Hair in 2019
HSA: How do you recommend taming frizzy hair? Any specific products one can use?
Padilla: Get a keratin treatment at your favourite salon. It won’t make your hair pin straight but it will definitely make it more manageable. Also, stop washing your hair everyday and use dry shampoo in between washes.
Makeup Trends To Follow In 2019
HSA: What are your top 10 makeup product recommendations this coming year?
Padilla: I recommend the following products as a must-have in your vanity kit. I believe in quality over quantity and so if you can, save a little and buy these products as opposed to just any off the rack.
- Anastasia Beverly Hills Soft Glam Palette
- Eye of Horus Eyeliner in Nubian Brown
- Ofra lipstick in Manila
- Hourglass Highlighters
- L’Oreal Lash Paradise Mascara
- Makeup Forever HD Foundation
- Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Powder
- Anastasia Beverly Hills Eyebrow Pencil
- The Balm Bahama Mama Bronzer
HSA: What makeup trends do you foresee in 2019?
Padilla: Glitter is having, and will continue to have, a huge moment. Don’t be afraid to make those lids sparkle. Also, people want convenience. If you have a product that can be used on the lips, cheeks and eyes, it’ll be in my handbag 24/4. Multi-use products are everything.
Healthy, shiny, glassy looking skin is in. Having matte skin is passè. Natural looking eyebrows are in, Instagram eyebrows need to be a thing of the past.
Beauty with a conscience, people want ethical, natural, sustainable beauty products.
HSA: What skincare trends do you foresee in 2019?
Padilla: High quality products at a reasonable price point. Buying from smaller, local brands. Also, consumers are interested in the morals and ethics of the company they are buying from. They want things to be eco-friendly, natural. And finally, multi-tasking products.
How To Create A Flawless Foundation Routine
HSA: As a makeup artist how do you recommend creating the 'flawless foundation routine'?
Padilla: Start with a good base. Make sure your face is clean, then apply your moisturiser, eye cream and primer. I like to brush on liquid highlighter to my cheekbones, brow bones, cupid’s bow and chin before putting on foundation so it looks like the skin is glowing from within.
Layer on a light application on foundation or tinted moisturiser. Use concealer on the blemishes and other imperfections on the face. Set with a light dusting of translucent powder.
The Best Holiday Looks You Need To Try
HSA: Which according to you are the best holiday makeup looks?
And finally, a sun-kissed skin with a gold eye and nude lips.
