While there is no substitute to learning from a trained instructor, there are ways to undertake Krav Maga training at home

If you've seen Wonder Woman star Gal Godot's interviews, you may have heard her talk about an Israeli martial art form called Krav Maga.

The gorgeous actor is well-trained in this deadly hand-to-hand combat art that allows you to annihilate your opponent using any part of the body that you have going for you. Which is practically its biggest appeal and has led to many people wanting to learn it, amping its popularity in the recent past.

But like all forms of martial art, there is no substitute to learning from an instructor.

However, there are ways to undertake Krav Maga training at home, especially if you are keen and there are no pocket-friendly training schools around.

Three Stances For Krav Maga Training At Home

But before you begin scroll down to check out the three basic Krav Maga stances to give you an idea of how this combat form works and how to perform them; as well as pro tips and warnings to get you started.

1. Basic Stance

There are five steps in the basic stance. The first step is to stand as naturally as you do. Unlike other forms of martial arts where the participants are required to take esoteric stance, Krav Maga teaches participants to fight while standing naturally.

Next, turn your upper body so that your weaker arm faces your opponent or training partner and is close to your face and. This will reduce the effect of their blow. Now lift your arms, bend your elbows bringing them close to your rib cage and bring your fists just below your eye level. Make sure to slightly bend your knees so that its easy for you to move front and back when the need be.

Finally, shift your weight from one leg to the other and understand which side makes you the most comfortable to lunge from. And there you go. That's your basic stance.

2. Horizontal Elbow Stance

This second stance is one of the most common in Krav Maga, but also a deadly one. For this stance, begin with your basic stance, fold your arms and bring your fists in front of your face just below the eye level.

Now force your right elbow in the front as if you are punching with your elbow. Aim for the temple or the jaw. Do the same with your left elbow and make sure to pivot your hips in the same direction as your elbow.

3. Krav Maga punch defence stance

This stance is specifically design to help you defend yourself from a potential punch. So when your opponent comes at you with a punch, all you have to do is to swerve to the side in a way that you miss his punch.

Then, get into the basic stance and quickly hit his arm with your left hand and use your right hand to punch his face. To better understand how to do this watch the video (above) and practice everyday.

While these are a few stances of this combat art form to give you an idea of what to expect, there are a few things you must keep in mind if you decide to pursue Krav Maga training at home.

Tips On Krav Maga Training At Home

Remember to practice all of these stances more than 10 to 20 times per day. Include them in your daily exercise regime and repeat two to three stances at the end of every exercise.

This way you will be able to recall all of the stances in a way that you will naturally be able to perform them under stress. This form of combat doesn't come naturally to all, practice is key and so is repetition.
