Why Ocean's 8 Trailer Is Making Women Jump With Joy, In Heels!

The Ocean's 8 trailer has been making all the right noises, thanks to its sexy, feisty ball-busting cast and kickass action!

The Ocean's 8 trailer has been on my mind recently. Not only because I'm so freaking excited for the cast, but also because it seems to be good watch for both fashion girls and feminists alike.

You see, people have a certain misconception about being a feminist--that you're automatically a man hater. But as we learn more about it, we understand that being a feminist is a mindset. Even a man can be a feminist. So whether you are a feminist, fashion-forward, a beauty gal, an engineer, or a basketball player, if you long for equality for both sexes, you are a feminist.

This brings me to the main reason why I love the film.

For this movie Sandra Bullock, a good friend of George Clooney, reportedly pushed for an all-female cast to happen. She says ,"It's been a long time coming." And I agree.

Women can be caring and loving and at the same time sexy, feisty ball-busters. And Ocean's 8, which revolves around  Debbie Ocean (Bullock) sister of Danny Ocean (Clooney) who comes out of jail and plans a jewellery heist at The Met Gala alongside seven badass women, drives the point home.

But there is a lot more to this movie. Here's why we're already in love with it.

The 'job' takes place at The Met Gala

In all honesty, it would be a dream-come-true scenario if I were a part of Ocean's 8 Trailer. Ha! But if you're a fashion girl, one of your dreams might be part to rub shoulders with the who's who at the annual Met Gala where celebrities and fashion folk take part in parading in their costumes according to a theme--all for a good cause.

The fact that the movie is set to pull off a robbery during the event (yes, they had to shoot during the actual Met Gala) excites me most because then I would get to the see event in a whole new light.

Up to 20 fashion personalities will make an appearance

It has been confirmed that up to 20 celebrities and fashion personalities will grace the film. Some of them include Kim Kardashian West, Kendall and Kylie Jenner, Dakota Fanning, Olivia Munn, Katie Holmes, Zayn Malik, Zac Posen, Adriana Lima, and Serena Williams. If this list doesn't give you chills yet, I dunno what else would.

The women are serving trendy looks left, right, and centre

Of course, the star-studded all-female cast look smashing because you can never be overdressed or overeducated at The Met Ball. The stylist of this movie, Sarah Edwards, may not have been known for fashion flicks, but she definitely outdid herself here. I particularly loved Cate Blanchett's character's looks 'cause I'm a suit fan. Also, the jewellery design is pretty extravagant, something we've been dying to see since Audrey Hepburn's Breakfast at Tiffany's.

Yes, hunty! Queen Robyn Fenty is set to play a major role as Nine ball, the hacker of the group. She collaborated with director Gary Ross to make the character look like she's from Barbados, thus the dreadlocks and the chill yet too-cool-for-school attitude.

There are people of color

The movies stars Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, with Rihanna and Helena Bonham Carter. For me, that a good amount 'variety' in skin tone and race. So aside from this film being a possible win for #teamfeminists, it can also be a good win for #teaminclusion.

Hopefully, this starts a fire in Hollywood as well. It's about time we look beyond race and sex for casting actors, right?

"'Cause it's what I'm good at"

This is my favorite line from Ocean's 8 trailer. It's when Cate Blanchett's character asks Sandra Bullock's character "Why are you doing this?" and Bullock's character unapologetically says "'Cause it's what I'm good at." Which, speaks volumes to my Millennial soul.

Granted robbery is a crime (obviously), but think about that line in relation to your job, your degree, or your business--don't you just want to shut down the questions (and self-doubt) and say "'Cause it's what I'm good at." Clearly, that's one of the best reasons to why you do what you do.

Whatever men can do, women can do better, bleeding

Say it louder, women. If anything, Ocean's 8 trailer has taught us that there is nothing women can't do it. In fact, there's nothing women can't do better.

After Ocean's 8 trailer came out people have been commenting that it might have the same fate as the all-female Ghostbusters. This is pretty telling of how the general audience feels about the matter. Is it because it's an all-female cast? The all-male cast of Ocean's 11 didn't get the same critique, didn't it?

Now that's food for thought. All I know is you'll find me at the premiere of Ocean's 8, probably swooning over the looks and cheering on those sexy, feisty women all the way at the back.
